Then we recommend that you try our organic First Flush. In Darjeeling tea bushes go into hibernation. When spring arrives and the tea plucking starts, the first harvest of the year is called First Flush. Plucking starts by the end of February and lasts until the end of April. Darjeeling First Flush has a fine and flowery taste and a light golden cup.
The summer harvest is called Second Flush – referring only to the time of harvest being the second in the year, starting in the end of June and lasting until the end of July. It produces a tea full-bodied tea, stronger than First Flush and with a cup that reminds of dark amber.

If you are looking for an organic tea that hasn’t been oxidated (fermented), green tea is your tea! It is manufactured from the same tea bushes as black tea. The freshly plucked leaves are shortly exposed to heat (usually hot water steam). The heat prevents the oxidation of the leaves’ cell sap with the natural occurring oxygen in the air. The undermining of the oxidation process (sometimes also referred to as fermentation) causes the tea leaves to keep their green colour and their primary taste and properties. Green Darjeeling is mild and fresh in taste with some pleasant vegetal notes.

Tea connoisseurs agree: Darjeeling, a region in the northeast of India produces a tea that many like to call the champagne among teas.
The time of harvest and the method of manufacture determine whether the handplucked tea leaves will for example become a Second Flush black tea or a green tea.
All of our teas are of the highest leaf grade FTGFOP1 (Finest Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe), are certified organic and carry a certificate of origin by the Tea Board of India. On top of that many are certified by Naturland and/or Fairtrade.

Darjeeling - a protected name of origin
The protected designation of origin is something we also know from other foods. One of the most prominent examples is probably Champagne – only sparkling wine produced by bottled fermentation in the French region of Champagne may be called and sold as Champagne. Since November 10, 2011, Darjeeling is a protected designation of origin within the EU as well. Producers in India as well as consumers shall thus be protected from imitations and adulterations. The characteristic topography of Darjeeling, its altitude, its steep slopes and its special climate pour into a unique cup of tea. We think that a package of tea that says Darjeeling must live up to its promise of pure Darjeeling. Only tea from the Darjeeling region in the northeast of India may be sold under this name. The annual production amounts to only around 9000 tons of tea, whereas globally around 40.000 tons of tea are sold as “Darjeeling”. The adulterations are a slap in the face of the producers and deceit to the consumers.
Those of you who buy their teas at Teekampagne know the logo of pure Darjeeling tea on our packages since 1988. Purposely we did not invent our own logo but rather used the protection symbol for pure Darjeeling tea. We want to educate consumers about authenticity and help to promote the Darjeeling logo throughout the world. In April 2004 we were the first German company to sign a license agreement with the Tea Board of India. We disclose the quantities of tea we buy and sell. You will find our license number on each package of our teas.
